SmartStop is a mechanical security system for Shopping Carts. SmartStop ensures that the Shopping Carts stay where they belong - in the parking lot or in the store.
A magnet embedded in the ground activates two diagonally mounted SmartStop wheels. If the Shopping Cart is slightly moved to the side while pushing, the two SmartStop wheels lock at an angle of about 30 degrees. As a result, the Shopping Cart can only be moved in a circle. This effectively prevents the Shopping Cart from being stolen.
When the Shopping Cart is pushed back over the embedded magnet, the wheels unlock automatically and the Shopping Cart can be moved freely.
Permanent magnets are used to trigger the mechanism. SmartStop is practically maintenance-free and works purely mechanically without batteries.
Compared to other systems, the locking is much more pleasant for customers. No abrupt braking, but gentle rotation of the Shopping Cart.
